August Summarized!

Seriously! I don't know where August has gone! Time is flying by and yet I am still finding myself trying to soak in all God has for me in this very season and enjoy it!

August has been a great month as we have been looking forward to starting a new season in our family as Paige begins Kindergarten on Aug. 31st. She is super excited and got meet her teacher last week, put her supplies in her desk and hang out with new and old friends. I am looking forward to seeing how God continues to mold and shape her for his purposes as she enters the "school years" with the Holy Spirit right there to guide her! Yeah!!! Saturday we visited the children's museum for the "kindergarten party". Paige got a t-shirt that reads "I'm going to Kindergarten!" She begged me to put it on immediately and then wash it so she could wear it to church.

They had all kinds of cool activities for the kids to do from face painting, shoe tying, balloon artist, moon bounce, bus safety, healthy eating, hand washing, and more. Landri loves the museum and decided to take in some painting while Coley and Paige hung out in a very long line for the balloon artist.

We wrapped up our family day with heading to TJ's to get an awesome bacon blue cheeseburger with fried pickles and mushrooms. Our fav!

Paige got her cast off on the 17th and they said that she will have to wear an ankle brace for 8 to 10 weeks all the time except for sleeping. After that it will only be during physical activity...which is pretty much all the time EXCEPT when she is sleeping so not sure how that is going to go. However - hopefully we are on the right track with this ankle. I know that she is ready for it to be healed. Our worship leader at church, the girls call him Mr. John, is going to be the PE teacher at Paige's school - his degree is actually in exercise science - so Paige is super duper excited about that. He told her the other night "Just call me Coach John" - She smiled!

We also got to make a special trip to New Mexico to see "Little MeMe" as we call her - the girls great-grandmother. It was a great trip as my mom met us and Heather and Ethan rode along with us. This picture is of Landri and Ethan digging in her flower bed. Heather and I used to do this and then make mud pies. The kids indulged in this time-honored tradition! They made us sooo proud! So good to be at Little Meme's house and enjoy her. We also got to visit Coley's grandmother in her new home and my dad's parents. That was special as well. We met Wayne and Malinda for dinner and the kids had a nice visit.

Wow! As I write I am waiting on my car to be finished at the detail shop. It was completely nasty after 9 days at the coast and well...just having kids does a doozy on your vehicle! The girls are finishing out their summer at MeMe and Pepper's house - and I am finishing it out with some down time...sort of....Coley and I will get some time together and I will be working on the children's ministry stuff for our church. Whew! Something we are looking forward to is going on a fall vacation!!!

Date Night - Local Theater

Coley and were able to swing a date night tonight (thank you Madelyn!) and decided it was time to do something local - which doesn't leave many options in our little barbecue town.

We decided to check out the local community theater as they were having their last production of a melodrama "Peril on the High Seas". We indulged and got the dinner and movie package ($18 each- who can eat and go to local live theater for that??? Cheap!). We ate none other - than at a local barbecue place - and walked the square. That was neat - we got to walk off some dinner before sitting for 2 1/2 hours. Plus, we saw some new business that we haven't gotten to check out. Then went to the theater which is situated just off the square. It is a very old theater and had this most vintage - but really exciting - feel. Coley had the look of dread on his face and even commented "theater people are a little different you know"...

So the play was a melodrama. I had no clue what that meant, but we learned quickly - that it is a funny, interactive production that allows the audience to comment out loud at the actors, throw popcorn on stage, laugh loudly, boo, hiss, etc. Totally fun and hilarious!

Coley totally enjoyed it! He even said on the way home that it was one of the best date nights we have had in a long time. So I guess it doesn't hurt to try something new, local and cheap once in while....there is more to date night than dinner and commuting!
